Concert Saxophonis Jason Xanthoudakis studied saxophone at Melbourne University and the Victorian College of the Arts with Phillip Miechel, Dr. Peter Clinch, Ian Godfrey and Terry Noone, and is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium where he studied with Mark Walton and James Nightingale.Jason has a busy performance schedule including performances with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as well as frequent solo recitals around Australia. He has performed several live broadcast recitals on 2MBS-FM and has recorded for ABC Classic FM, has been broadcast on 3MBS-FM as well as Australian local and national radio programmes. Jason has written articles for various Saxophone Magazines, including the Australian Clarinet and Saxophone magazine, has conducted masterclasses throughout Australia and has arranged/transcribed more than 50 works for Saxophone.
In 2002 he performed the Ibert Concertino da Camera with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and also won the Victorian College of the Arts Concerto Competition and in 2002 he was invited to perform at the Australasian International Clarinet and Saxophone Conference, Brisbane where he performed a recital of contemporary Saxophone works. Jason is very active in the field of Contemporary Music and encourages composers to write music for Saxophone. Several composers have dedicated works to Jason and in 2004 Jason gave the world premieres of 6 new works for Saxophone.
In 2005 Jason performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Glazounov Concerto with the Barrier Reef Symphony Orchestra, Milhaud's Scaramouche with the SBS Radio and Television Youth Orchestra, several solo recitals for various organisations, and also gave a solo recital at the 2005 Melbourne International Single Reeds Festival.
