Talented young local pianist Andrew D'Azevedo
was the SSSO's featured soloist on 17th April 2005 with a performance of
W. A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No.19 in F Major, K.459.Andrew D'Azevedo started music lessons at the age of 5 and has recently completed his A. Mus. A. as well as his HSC in Music. He joined the Youth Access program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2003 and held a scholarship in 2004. He is currently studying for his L.Mus.A. under the tutelage of Gerard Willems at the Sydney Conservatorium.
As a performer Andrew has entered in various categories in the Wollongong and Sutherland Eisteddfods and the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge and received several top placings and commendations. In 2004 he won the Sutherland Shire and St. George Youth Music Awards.
Andrew has been involved in composition for many years. In 2001 he attended the inaugural composition workshop run by Richard Gill of the Sydney Symphony. Andrew has also repeatedly entered the Composition section of the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge where he achieved first placings for 5 years in a row. His 2004 prizewinning "Theme et Variations", a composition for two pianos, was performed in the Oceania Junior Original Concert in the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. Earlier compositions have been performed in international concerts in Sydney and Taiwan. Andrew's composition "Zero Space" was performed in the Sydney Opera House in February 2005.
